Theater Mitu in Abu Dhabi

A Note From Artistic Director Rubén Polendo About Theater Mitu in Abu Dhabi:

This coming year promises to be a fascinating one for myself and for Theater Mitu.
I have recently received an appointment as Associate Professor at NYU-Abu Dhabi
and have been charged with starting and heading the Theater Program for this new university. Located in the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the coast
of the Arab Gulf, NYU-AD opened its doors Fall 2010. This liberal arts university,
under the NYU Global Network, will espouse all of the academic and artistic values
of its parent institution; furthermore, NYU-Abu Dhabi will be set up, above all, as a research university, supporting a high level of research projects that broaden and expand the various disciplines.
This mission is not only in line with my personal artistic goals, but is by definition
in line with those of Theater Mitu. We have for over a decade framed Mitu's work
as research. It is this research that drives our training programs throughout the
world and that in turn drive our Whole Theater Training methodology. Ultimately,
it is this research frame that has given shape to Theater Mitu artistically and pedagogically. I am very excited, under this new appointment, to continue our research into performance and ritual traditions worldwide. We hope to continue exploring, experimenting and synthesizing these traditions towards creating a more
vibrant and impactful theatrical vocabulary. We look forward to creating and presenting work in New York and in the UAE.
