HAMLET/UR HAMLET
A Theater
Mitu collaboration
Conceived, Adapted and Directed by Rubén Polendo
Dramaturgy by Chris Mills
A continuation of the company's research into fear and the artistic
process, this phase of the FEAR CYCLE once more begins with a simple
question: As an actor, what would be the most terrifying role you can
think of playing? It is that question which led to the
genesis of this piece
In HAMLET/UR HAMLET,
Theater Mitu will explore the violence within the pre-Shakespearian
Saxon myth of Hamlet; the narrative theology of Saxo Grammaticus'
Amleth tale; and the language of William Shakespeare's Hamlet.
The comedy will explore a highly physicalized staging that
merges Arabic clowning, Klon Sabadchai (Thai battle drums) and
Kalaripayattu (South Indian Martial Art), so as to delve into the
self-perpetuating nature of violence; the intrinsic power of family;
and the darkest nature of love.
