Theater Mitu is now accepting applications for a full-time General Manager who will oversee organizational management, finances, development, and strategic planning for this ambitious and established non-profit arts organization.
The General Manager will be a critical part of the management team of Theater Mitu – taking on essential organizational duties and proactively engaging in a conversation about the development and growth of the company. This is a unique opportunity to become deeply involved in the communal operation of a dynamic interdisciplinary arts company that performs, develops new work, researches, and teaches worldwide. The General Manager will be essential in planning the company’s activities for the coming seasons; orchestrating tour planning and outreach; aiding in the annual budgeting process; all while supporting the strategic planning for the company’s growth in the coming years. The ideal candidates would be ambitious, motivated, and committed to making an impact on the field. The future General Manager should have demonstrated leadership skills and the keen social capacity to manage a range of artists and collaborators both in the USA and abroad. SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The General Manager is responsible for the overall business, administrative, and operational management of the company. This position reports to the Artistic Director and work is done in collaboration with a full-time Associate Artistic Director with the support of a permanent ensemble of company members. The position includes significant travel opportunities both nationally and internationally.
-Develop Theater Mitu’s overall fundraising strategy that grows both individual and institutional giving; while maintaining current funding sources to support programming, research, pedagogy and general operations.
-Cultivate, grow and maintain Theater Mitu’s Board of Directors.
-Lead grant writing and manage grant deadlines to ensure timely submission of materials, dispensation, and final reports.
-Prepare accurate and timely financial and project budget information for all institutional and corporate fundraising.
-Maintain existing relationships with the public, funders, other arts organizations, and other constituencies.
-Direct all financial processes, including cash receipts, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
-Implement Budget procedures, timelines and formats related to budget oversight.
-Prepare revenue forecasts for annual budget and analyses of cash flow, asset accounts and/or budget status.
-Create project budgets, reconcile expenses with partners and funders, and provide required documentation for dispensation of funds.
-Prepare quarterly, annual and other periodic and ad hoc financial reports and documents required by state and federal agencies.
-Manage and improve the company’s operations. Including leading the development of effective processes and related metrics/reporting in each of the company programs: production, touring, research, intensives and community engagement.
-Maintain all contracts with partner institutions and artists, while working within the production timeline to ensure timely dispensation of funds and payment of artists and partners.
Long Term Strategic Initiatives:
-Work in partnership with artistic director, artistic leadership, the company and board, to manage the execution of Theater Mitu’s comprehensive 5-year plan.
-Serve as spokesperson to the community, articulating and advocating for the long-term vision, mission and impact of Theater Mitu. This includes representing and advocating for Theater Mitu at the city, state, national and international level.
-Minimum 3 years of experience in arts management, non-profit management and/or a related graduate degree
-Proven track record building long-term relationships with a wide range of community members and prospective donors
-Project management skills including budgeting, calendars, staffing and production
-Basic understanding of accrual accounting procedures as it relates to a mid-sized non-profit organization
-Strong and efficient problem-solving skills
-Ability to work independently and also in collaboration with a dynamic range of company members
-Demonstrated success leading fundraising initiatives
-Demonstrated excellence in organizational, management, and communication skills
-Ability to build strategic partnerships
-Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording information
-Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Quickbooks
